FIU Gupta scholarships will support students in business and computing through a family endowment honoring the late professor Sushil Gupta, Florida International University said on October 8. The university describes a $200,000 endowment commitment intended to extend his teaching and research legacy.
The Dr. Sushil K. Gupta Scholarship Endowment in Logistics & Supply Chain Management will provide scholarships through the College of Business. FIU says a second endowment in his name will support students in the College of Engineering & Computing.
Why the FIU Gupta scholarships span two fields
The university’s announcement connects the choice of disciplines to Gupta’s work. He was a professor of information systems and business analytics whose research included production scheduling, mathematical modeling, project management, supply chain management, e-business and disaster management.
FIU appointed him PayCargo Professor in 2021 to lead a faculty team focused on supply chain research and curriculum development. He also served the university in administrative roles, including vice provost and director of planning and institutional research, and later associate dean for research in the College of Engineering.
Subodha Kumar, identified by FIU as executive director of the Production and Operations Management Society, explained that supporting both disciplines reflected Gupta’s recognition of the links between supply chains, data and computing. The university presents the scholarships as a continuation of that integrated approach.
A legacy inside and outside the university
Gupta was among the founding members of the Production and Operations Management Society, known as POMS, according to FIU. He served as its president in 1996 and executive director from 1997 to 2025. The university says he died in 2025.
The family describes the endowments as a way to continue his support for students. The practical effect will depend on the scholarships’ eventual awards and administration, not simply on the size of the fund announced this week.
What students should check
The news announcement is not an application notice. It does not specify an application deadline, individual award amounts or a full eligibility test. Students should seek the current scholarship information directly from the relevant FIU college before assuming they can apply or budgeting for an award.
For Miami’s university community, the announcement adds a concrete funding commitment to a familiar academic challenge: preparing students to work across business systems and the computing tools used to understand them. The colleges named by FIU are the places to watch for the next stage, when that commitment becomes specific student opportunities.
